Estancia

Estancia, The Inspiration Behind The Name

Estancia, Spanish for "farm." Estancias dot the landscape of the Pampas in Argentina. An Estancia can be seen from a distance because tall trees usually surround it, and it typically comprises several different buildings. The main building, the house, is generally referred to as a "casco."

I wanted to capture the scent in the air while driving across the Pampas, along with the aromatic blend I recall from my grandmother's orchard and garden. Especially at sunset or night, when plants typically release more volatiles to attract nighttime pollinators, the air is rich with a combination of herbal, floral, and resinous notes.

It can be a challenge to combine multiple natural materials without one overshadowing the others or creating a cacophony. I aimed to capture the intense greenery of the Pampas while creating a functional fragrance suitable for use as a candle or room spray. The type and level of diffusion will differ depending on the type of scent vehicle. It was also important to me to remain loyal to the craft of perfumery, blending the formula according to the traditional high perfumery methodology of the mid-20th century.

The result is a hyper-green fragrance that can be enjoyed in either a Luxury Scented Candle or a Luxury Room Spray form, with an unparalleled level of diffusion in either format. Estancia has the added benefit of being an excellent room freshener, thanks to the materials included in it.

The Creation Of The Fragrance

The creation of this fragrance involved a thorough examination of raw materials of Pure and Natural origin (P&N).

Traditionally off-limits for functional fragrance, materials of natural origin display a vast array of olfactory and synergistic properties. Most home fragrance brands tend to shy away from using natural ingredients, but after years of experience, I have a solid understanding of their appropriate application, dosage, concentration, dilution, and blending with aroma chemicals that will support and enhance them.

To me, the word luxury is not applied lightly. If I am going to create a luxury scented candle, it should not only have a luxurious look but also include luxurious materials to convey and represent luxury. All the components in it must be deemed luxurious. And when it comes to that, for RHR Luxury, it's clear that we make luxury, not just wrap it in fancy packaging and call it so.

Natural Materials In Estancia: Why They Matter

One of the key ingredients in this blend is hay absolute, a viscous, dark green to dark brown syrup that can be deemed the visual translation of the color loden green. Hay absolute has been known in high perfumery for about two centuries; it provides outstanding fixative powers, not unlike oakmoss absolute. Sweeter and more balsamic than oakmoss, hay absolute in Estancia also lends a pale green coloration to the wax.

Estancia also has a high content of other botanical ingredients of P&N (Pure & Natural) origin. These were selected for their known calm-inducing and air-cleansing qualities. Oils of cedarwood, cypress, rosemary, and tarragon provide a refreshing and familiar aromatic profile, accented by crisp notes of geranium and tomato leaf. Oils of palo santo and carrot seed give a grounding, leather-like accord that keeps the fragrance diffusive and strong throughout the candle's life cycle. This is an authentic luxury home fragrance experience.

The selection and careful blending of all these materials, accentuated by high-impact aroma chemicals of natural origin, results in an intense aromatic profile with a long lifespan that will diffuse at a constant low temperature, thanks to the use of coconut and soy wax in the candle. The concentration of the Estancia room spray is similar to that of Eau de Parfum, where just a couple of spritzes are sufficient to scent an entire room.

Estancia embodies cherished memories of vacations in the Pampas. I hope you give yourself the chance to experience it.
