Tuberose is a flower originally from Mexico, and it was known and cultivated by the Aztecs for their intoxicating fragrance, to make ceremonial necklaces for their rituals and celebrations.
It was taken to Europe by the Spanish in the XVI Century, during the Age of Discoveries, and made popular in gardens there and in Italy, until Louis XIV's gardener discovered it and reputedly brought it as a gift to the Sun King.
Since then, it has been associated with French perfumery.
Tuberose has a special place in my library, being the epitome of migrant perfume culture as a result of mass migrations. It is classified as a white flower, but I decided to include it in The Last Night Of Summer because as a soliflore, it is deeply narcotic and to some it smells cooling, while to others it smells warming, moods I associate with precisely, the end of the summer.
Tuberose Mexicana is inspired and follows the aromatic profile of the live flower. As such, it is a complex narcotic floral with green spicy and gourmand peach and coconut accents.
With rare ingredients like the real tuberose absolute from enfleurage, tagetes absolute, and massoia bark essential oil, I created a tuberose perfume that is far stronger than other tuberose candles you may find in the market.
And far more luxe.

- Trim the wick up to 1/8” before each use. Pick out any burnt wick remains from the melted wax before it cools off with a teaspoon or other utensil.
- Place on a heat-resistant surface and rotate often for an even melt, watch for drafts from windows or AC units.
- To avoid tunneling, always burn to a full pool of melted wax. This candle size develops a full pool at approximately 3 hours of constant burning.
- Keep away from children, pets and drafts.
- To upcycle your vessel, look for instructions in the next drop down menu, or the scent-flyer included in the box.

You can upcycle our crystal vessels by removing the leftover wax in a gentle bain-marie as follows:
Ensure your vessel is at room temperature to avoid a material shock. Pour one full cup of filtered water in a small pot over medium fire, and place the vessel inside, carefully watching as the wax starts to melt. Do not let the water boil to avoid overheating the vessel. Once melted, turn the stove off and take out the vessel wearing gloves to avoid burns. Dispose of the leftovers along mixed refuse, then gently pull the wick base with a spoon. The wick base is made of recycled aluminum, you can dispose of it along other metal recyclables. Wipe the interior surface with a paper towel dabbed in rubbing alcohol or a 1:5 mix of filtered water and white vinegar, and allow to finish cooling and drying off. We prefer to use filtered water as it contains less abrasives and suspended particles that could scratch the delicate surface gloss of our crystal vessels.

Tuberose Mexicana Inspiration
Originally from Mexico, tuberose was taken to Europe by the Spanish in the XVI Century, during the Age of Discoveries, and made popular in gardens there and in Italy, until Louis XIV's gardener discovered it and reputedly brought it as a gift to the Sun King.
It was instant passion, Louis ordered beds to be constructed all around the wings of Versailles, and it is said more than one hundred gardeners were solely dedicated to replace dying or spent blooms periodically.
A bizarre legend around tuberose tells the tale of how courtesans would faint while walking through the beds, so strong was their fragrance. Most likely, courtesans fainted due to their corsets and rushing back to the palace before sunset in summertime, to get ready for the evening.
But the fragrance of tuberose beds in Versailles became legendary one way or another, and Louis asked to have tuberose distilled whichever way possible, in order to add it to his already favorite orange blossoms perfumes.
Tuberose Mexicana is rather inspired in Mexican traditions, royal associations don't really move a needle for me. Coming from Mexico, it made sense to me to build a fragrance using other endemic materials to Mexico and other Latin American countries. That's why there are certain spices added to this blend. And, these spices contribute to a specific task: the reproduction of the green aspects of the fragrance of the live flower. One of the most complex aromatic profiles, the scent of live tuberoses is very hard to reproduce. But not impossible.
As a soliflore* project, I wanted to not only get as close as possible to the living flower, but I also wanted to incorporate the real tuberose absolute from enfleurage, coming from India, and remain true to the greenery in it, it is a plant, after all.
The result is a green, spicy and overly sweet-narcotic juice, with gourmand accords of peach and coconut, in keeping with the existing lactones in the fragrance of tuberoses. Tuberose Mexicana is a departure from the current paradigm of tuberose accords in the perfume and home fragrance industries. Usually reproduced with high doses of methyl anthranilate and orange blossom ingredients, alongside overdoses of peach aldehyde, the green aspects of the smell of live tuberose require ingredients with a prohibitive price for the compounding industry.
But, being independent, and able to afford any material I want, I am able to use whatever I want, to achieve the final results I want, regardless of a budget. In all honesty, I don't have a budget. The budget is what the final cost is, and I don't pinch pennies when it comes to remaining loyal to haute-perfumerie.
