Tormenta is the new member in the club of water-inspired fragrances of The Essential Waters , it is a companion to Marino and Atlántico.

Tormenta is the Spanish word for "Storm," and it is a perfect fragrance to bring indoors what's going on in the garden right now at the very beginning of Fall. 

Growing up in the Pampas,  I grew up witnessing summer thunderstorms becoming more frequent approaching Fall, and it truly feels like the world is coming to an end. I've always loved the deep color of stormy clouds, the dark navy color of this candle is evocative of those super dark grey/ bluish cumulus clouds that look take over the skies and download a biblical pour. 

Tormenta, the fragrance, is built around the smell of wet soil during and after a thunderstorm, but also incorporating all the smells of a garden under the rain. As such, it becomes a floral, woodsy and green fragrance, with a lovely heart of rose and patchouli, besides the inclusion of geosmin, the famous molecule we are all so sensitive to, released by bacteria in the soil when wet. 

In terms of construction, it is an amber-chypre, designed for expansive diffusion and with aromatic ingredients that evaporate at different temperatures during the cycle of a burn, therefore, it is a candle where the fragrance is not linear, and the volatiles float in the air at different heights, creating the effect of smelling different things at the same time.

What Makes It Unique

Tormenta is unusual in that for a candle inspired by rain, it blends herbs, flowers and woods of P&N (Pure & Natural) Origin in all 3 segments of its construction. Creating a "rain" aromatic profile involves working with synthetic molecules that reproduce the smell of geosmin and a few others that give the impression of wet soil, wet bark, and wet grass. But I learned that many natural materials already carry that impression, so I worked with them in an effort to reduce the risk of nose saturation that synthetic molecules can effect.

As such, unusual materials like rue and angelica root essential oils play along calamus, and blue yarrow with accents of rose, saffron and carnation accords. A cushioned base of patchouli, cedarwood and oakmoss provide support to top notes like birch leaf and magnolia, while ensuring a consistent diffusion throughout the life cycle of the candle.

Care Instructions

  • Trim the wick up to 1/8” before each use. Pick out any burnt wick remains from the melted wax before it cools off with a teaspoon or other utensil.
  • Place on a heat-resistant surface and rotate often for an even melt, watch for drafts from windows or AC units.
  • To avoid tunneling, always burn to a full pool of melted wax. This candle size develops a full pool at approximately 3 hours of constant burning.
  • Keep away from children, pets and drafts.
  • To upcycle your vessel, look for instructions in the next drop down menu, or the scent-flyer included in the box.
