Luxury Crystal Cloche With Black Saint Laurent Marble

Black Saint Laurent marble is a brownish black luxurious marble that has been primarily quarried in France, since the end of the XIX Century. Not to confuse it with Yves Saint Laurent, it is possibly named after the town of Laurens, in the Occitanie region of Southern France.

It is a compact coppery black limestone characterized by the presence of gold, beige and white veins in geometrical lines. The golden and white lines are calcite deposits -think quartz- and the black stone itself is primarily a limestone, both the black stone and the veins acquire a delicate luster when polished due to their fine grain makeup. 

A product of the Devonian period in the formation of the Earth's crust not being present in other regions of the world, this is indeed a precious marble coming from quarries with an expiration date, watched over from afar by the French Government. 

Considered more luxurious than other black marbles, it is a material that requires special skills to cut and polish into smaller objects.
