Malachite Riser
Malachite Riser
Malachite, one of the rarest minerals on Earth. Mined for more than 5,000 years to extract copper and for ornamental uses, it is one of the most sought after semiprecious stones, and one of the hardest to work with.
Produced by water precipitation, the presence of copper gives malachite its characteristic deep green color.
We cut a candle riser out of a single piece of African malachite with druzy inclusions. Druzy gives our specimen a rare sparkle, forming cavities within the malachite. We decided to leave these natural cavities, proof of millions of years of pressure, temperature and chemical interactions within the ore. Modeling sharp edges and corners, keeping a specific shape and scale, we designed this one-of-a-kind piece to display our luxury scented candles and to also protect other precious surfaces at home.
This is not tiling, it is not painted, nor it is a printed layer on top of a less expensive material, all reproductions easily produced by other brands. We tend to shy away from reproductions, preferring to work with the real thing. This is an exceptional piece that is hefty and solid, cut out and hand-polished with extreme care of a single malachite chunk pre-selected for having a variety of patterns, and an elegant play in high and low color bands.
