Granada is both the name of a city in Spain and the Spanish word for "pomegranate."

I grew up eating pomegranates in the summer at my grandmother's home, long before it became a symbol of a healthy lifestyle. I've always known the fruit as granadas, and the name always recalls the historic city in Spain, Granada. Both the fruit and the city serve as sources of inspiration for the creation of this fragrance.

Pomegranate accords have been included in fragrances since the advent of synthetic molecules that replicate the synchronic effect of eating and smelling pomegranates. Let's remember that our olfactory cells are located above our throat and connected to our mouth, so smelling and tasting go hand in hand. It is an iconic accord representing the sweet and sour, juicy, sharp flavors of red fruits. Because red fruits contain molecules that also exist in the fragrance of flowers, all red fruit flavors and scents have floral connotations for us.

Granada is a fruity, floral candle with exceptional diffusion power. It is powerful. Granada is included in my Scent Collection Summer In The Seventies because it is a summer gourmand fragrance. Specifically, Granada shares many aspects with its current companion there, Siesta, in that it also features citrus, balsamic, amber, and floral elements in its fragrance construction. Fruity gourmand perfumes almost always include citrus and floral accords that help convey the scent of fruit. And summer-inspired fragrances should, in my opinion, all contain some fruity connotation in one way or another.

Granada is every bit summery, fresh, and sparkling with the rare kumquat essential oil included in its top notes. It is radiantly floral and sweet, with notes of marzipan and cistus oil from Spain and caressing and enveloping thanks to a powerful white musk accord at its base.

Inspired by the city of Granada, I incorporated the creamy and balsamic Atlas cedarwood essential oil from Morocco, complemented by a delicate coconut accord at the base, along with sandalwood essential oil from Australia. To me, smells and flavors are an intrinsic part of my daily life, peppered with cherished memories of childhood and travels.

The smells and flavors that we like are partially a product of our culture. What we eat is intertwined with history and geography; the smells we are attracted to have a connection to who we are, where we come from, and where we are going in our path.

Granada is classified as a gourmand fruity floral fragrance with citrus and balsamic aspects. You can learn more about gourmand accords and perfumery classification here
