Siesta

Siesta, Spanish for "nap". Inspired by summer siestas and the bounty of summer, Siesta was an immediate thought after creating Atlántico.

I've loved fruits since I was a toddler. I was fortunate to spend summers in central Argentina at my maternal grandmother's house, in a region of the country that is known as the Pampa húmeda, or "wet Pampa". Wet, because it rains throughout the entire year, and because it has a rich fluvial system unloading into the mighty Paraná river, which makes the region the richest in the country for agriculture and fruit cultivation.

As kids, we used to cool off eating fruits taken from the orchard or the fridge, under the centenary Indian lilac trees in the vast garden, locally called paraísos, "paradise", indeed it was a slice of paradise to sit under them in the scorching heat of summer siestas. I marveled at the bounty of fruits: strawberries, watermelon, figs, grapes, peaches, plums, cantaloupes, pineapple and bananas brought from the northern provinces, and the rarest of them all, pomegranates dangling from the vine dividing the back of the property. The aromas, in the heat of high summer January, under the trees, are still fresh in my memory.

So I combined juicy fruit reconstitutions that I made in-house, with honey and cassia accords to punch up even more the sweetness and round up the sharp edges of caprates and salicylates. I decorated them with elderflower and linden blossom, and the result is a refreshing, slightly spicy gourmand blend, for the heart and top notes.

Using materials from the region, Guaiacwood, dry grass, and copaiba balsam, I created a base to also support traces of the rare and elusive mango leaf absolute; and paying homage to a typical Argentine summer wine, a novel reconstitution of Torrontés* grapes ensures the composition remains sweetly ethereal but freshly tinged in green.

The image is a visual representation of these ingredients, arranged as they are on the scent pyramid, the top row is for the top notes, middle for the heart, and bottom for the base accords.

Siesta is classed as a gourmand** fruity, floral, citrus scent. Siesta has a casual companion in the Siesta de Verano Luxury Travel Candle, with a similar fruity profile. Designed as an extension of the luxury version, it is a practical way to expand on its refreshing profile throughout the home.
